THE OPPORTUNITY

Chief Financial Officer

Sydney (preferred) or Melbourne
  • Backed by 3 of the largest Australian institutional investors within the energy transition.
  • Newly made CFO role, out of high corporate growth.
  • Could be an opportunity for a high potential Financial Controller or Financial Director (or similar) to step up.
  • Company size – 120+ staff.

    Our client is a well backed and high growth player in the energy transition space. They represent an end to end commercial and retail solar and battery solution covering everything from installation, maintenance and management of an entire rooftop solar and battery footprint for large real estate owners. They also act as a retailer for the entire electricity usage for small to large real estate owners making then an end to end “gentailer”. Within this part of the market, they are large and in high-growth mode with a 10% increase in staff just in the last 6 months.
    Due to this high growth environment, they have created a new CFO role to be a hands-on leader of the day-to-day finance function and team. This will include the mix of reporting, oversight of AP/AR/Payroll, banking requirements, compliance, audit/tax, and the budgeting/forecasting and periodic strategic updates, and high-level input into corporate implications of future strategic planning.


    Responsibilities include:
  • Lead financial operations, including reporting, budgeting, and cash flow management.
  • Provide strategic insights and recommendations to the CEO, Board, and executive team.
  • Oversee financial management, including management and statutory accounts.
  • Integrate financial processes with operational functions to enhance overall business performance.
  • Manage financial risks, compliance (incl oversight of AFSL obligations), and regulatory requirements.
  • Play a key leadership role by building and developing a high-performing finance team of 7 (with AP/AR/Payroll outsourced).
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to optimize operational efficiency and profitability.
  • Given some recent corporate acquisitions there is also an integration of accounting systems that will need to be managed (with assistance of external consultants).


Key Skills and Experience:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in a similar role (not necessarily a CFO role), with a total of 10+ years of experience.
  • We are looking for candidates with experience either within renewable energy development, energy retailers, or unregulated energy transmission and distribution.
  • Expertise in financial planning, analysis, and reporting.
  • CA or CPA qualified, with strong proficiency in financial software and systems.
  • Team leadership experience is required.
  • Proven ability to lead financial strategy to assist the leaders make decisions about future growth and planning.
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative leadership style.
